Roots of Personal Finance Member Spotlight: Kura and Levi Love

Before enrolling in Roots of Personal Finance, Kura and Levi Love were big spenders. Weekly shopping trips to Ross, going on vacations on credit, frequent eating out, a new car, a new house... For the last two years, their debt just kept piling up. Kura knew they needed help.

Kura and Levi signed up for Roots this past April and made some serious changes. "Roots helped to end my weekly trips to Ross and stop going out to eat every other day," Kura said. " We made a food budget and we only go grocery shopping a couple times a month together. This course made us really take a good hard look at our spending behaviors and where our money was going."

Once Kura and Levi were able to see that their financial problems was due to their behavior more so than money, they were able to put a serious dent in their debt. Since April, they have paid off $16,211.93 of debt. On top of that, they were able to put $2,000 into their emergency fund. And they won't be worrying about the holidays this year. Kura and Levi have saved $700 for Christmas.

Roots of Personal Finance has helped the couple make serious progress in their finances. They're planning and budgeting instead of frivolously spending. Kura advises, "Add up all the little things that you're purchasing everyday. Be aware of your spending behaviors and the amount of money going out every month. Sign up for Roots and get a handle on it."
