How to Avoid Burnout While Getting Out of Debt

Getting out of debt can be an uphill battle. Sometimes you take two steps forward and then take three steps back. It's no wonder you can experience burnout. The journey is hard, but the reward is so worth it! Here are some ways that will help you avoid burnout.

1. Fight resistance.

  • Do the things you must to have success even when you don’t “feel” like it.
  • Even as a coach, I don’t like to budget and plan. But it's a lot more fun now that we have money.

2. Set realistic, yet challenging goals.

  • Remember to have a clear why or purpose established. Without it, it's easy to not work as hard, or worse, quit and give up.

3. Don’t do too much.

  • There is a reason we do this in small steps. If we try to attack it all at once, we get frustrated that we can’t get it all done.
  • Don’t try to multitask.
  • Are other things taking priority over the goals you're working on?
    • "I'm too busy."
    • You should only work on a few things at a time. Those get the ultimate priority, the rest take a back seat.

4. Don't expect quick results.

  • Patience, patience, patience! This can be a painfully slow process.
  • If you aren’t getting results, is there something else to try? You can’t keep doing the same things over and over and expect a different result.
  • If you need help, REACH OUT!

5. Celebrate small wins.

  • It’s okay to budget a little money to have some fun now and then.
  • Reward yourself.
  • Remember that each little win contributes to the overall goal.

6. Take time for yourself.

  • Reserve 15-30 minutes of time each day for YOU!
  • Try writing or journaling to clear your mind, focus and regroup.
  • Try meditation.
  • Read a book.
