Are You Ready to Have the Money Conversation?

Relationships are hard work. Anyone who's ever been in a relationship knows this. When things get serious, other factors start coming into play that may complicate things. One factor in particular is money. More likely than not, both people enter into the relationship with bad money habits. If you had bad money habits coming into the relationship, it's probably not going to get any better. 

When you start combining your finances, you can really see the scope of how your partner handles money. However, more often, it's one person who handles the finances, instead of both partners together. This can lead to a myriad of problems in the long-term. If you're married or in a long-term relationship and reading this, you're probably nodding your head in agreement. Money is one of the leading causes of divorce in America.

But don't worry. There is hope. Several of our Roots of Personal Finances members have said that getting control of their finances has helped their relationships. Start with forgiving each other for past mistakes and figure out how to move forward proactively. Take a look at your finances together and create a budget.
